BC — The government has announced the process that will be used in the HST referendum vote this July.

The Process: The referendum will be conducted by Elections BC, which will begin mailing ballots to all registered voters on Monday, June 14th. It is expected that most British Columbians will have received their ballots by Friday, June 24th.

Unregistered voters will have until Friday, July 8th to request a ballot from Elections BC. British Columbians who have moved since the last election or are not registered voters for a provincial election will need to request a ballot.

The referendum question will be: "Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and reinstating the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) in conjunction with the GST (Goods and Services Tax)? Yes/No."

Deadline: Those who want to vote must fill in their ballots and either return them by mail to Election BC or drop them off in person at a Service BC centre by 4:30 pm (local time) on Friday, July 22.

Final Results: Elections BC will then take several weeks to count the votes, with the final result expected in August.
