Survey says: over 40 per cent of Canadian consumers are enrolled in 10 or more loyalty programs

By CO Staff @canadaone |

How do Canadians view reward and loyalty programs? According to a new survey conducted by Leger Marketing on behalf of eBay Canada, feelings are mixed. Here's what small business owners and Canadian retailers need to know.

Expectations: 86 per cent of Canadians feel they deserve to be rewarded for their loyalty.

Reach: 40 per cent of consumers in Canada belong to ten or more loyalty program.

Preference: 64 per cent of Canadian consumers prefer to shop with retailers that offer rewards.

Online: 40 per cent say they are frustrated with the scarcity of reward programs at online retailers

Complexity: 70 per cent of Canadian loyalty program participants are confused by point calculations and would prefer programs that are calculated using dollars rather than points.

Along with the survey results eBay Canada is launching a new reward loyalty program, eBay Bucks, which will give buyers 2 per cent cash back on all items purchased on eBay.ca when PayPal is used.

To participate buyers must enrol in the eBay Bucks program, at which point they will be able to see points that will earn points automatically, aggregating up to $500 (USD) eBay Bucks until the end of each calendar quarter - or every three months - at which point they have 30 days to spend the free money.
